Lesson Plan 5/22/13
Objective:
Students will learn about DNA and how it replicates, how it used, genetic recombination, the genetic code, mutations, and will better understand translation and transcription and a what a double helix is. Students will complete a DNA extraction lab and be able to successfully complete questions.
Roles:
Ciara- Coffee filters (#6), Ziploc bags (quart size)
Ilyana- In charge of hand-out preparation, ice in cooler
Katie- Fruit for lab
Allie- DNA Snack (25)
Activities:
1) Fruit Lab 20min: each table will complete the DNA Strawberry Lab. (while everyone does strawberry lab
we will do the same with a kiwi to show the difference)
2) Notes: Fill in the blank: 5-10min/ each student will get a notes handout to fill in.
~Power Point: goes with notes/ each of us did a page or two
3)Notes Questions/ Assessment: 10min/ The kids will answer verbally in a Round Robin in there tables.
